Laboratory Testing
Traditional medical testing relies heavily on a standard regiment of blood work and diagnostic imaging to detect and monitor illness, but many patients have physical complaints that are not easily diagnosed through these methods.
Naturopathic doctors are trained to use a wide range of non-invasive diagnostic tests to analyze blood, hair, urine, saliva, and stool samples. These tests provide unique information about food and environmental allergens and sensitivities, hormones, genetic and immune markers, neurotransmitters, nutrient status, metabolites of digestion, toxic heavy metals or other pollutants, and often help to identify the imbalances underlying a patient’s physical complaints.
Naturopathic doctors have access to LifeLabs, but these services are not covered under MSP. You can talk to your family GP and, if they are willing to collaborate in pursuit of your health, arrange to run specific tests through them.
The following list provides links to the labs that our Naturopathic Doctors commonly use. You are encouraged to check out these resources to be more informed about the labs and the tests that are available.
