Detoxing has become a bit of a trend in health circles as something we “do” to get rid of dangerous compounds in our body, but in reality, our body naturally works hard around the clock, 24/7, to detoxify itself and eliminate the plethora of toxins, heavy metals, and chemicals that we are exposed to on a daily basis through the foods we eat, the water we drink, and the air we breathe.

Fortunately, detoxification doesn’t require your extra savings or a heroic effort to help your body do what it was designed to do: cleaning out toxins to keep you in tip-top shape. A simple but committed shift in your diet and lifestyle habits can create significant, beneficial impact by strengthening and supporting the main organs that make it happen: the liver, the kidneys, the lungs, the lymphs, our skin, and our gut.

Two immediate ways we can effect detoxification and start feeling a shift in a cleaner direction is through exercise and proper hydration.
a) Exercise: perspiration is one of the body’s main elimination pathways, so doing activities that allow you to work up a decent sweat will get the process going. Saunas are an excellent sweat inducer as well.
b) Hydration: ensuring adequate hydration levels with pure water is another effective way of “flushing out the system”. Coffees and high-sugar drinks (such as fruit juices and soft drinks) don’t count. Aim for filtered water as much as possible, as city tap water is unfortunately one of the main causes of heavy metal toxification.

In essence, detox is a way of getting clean on the inside, and, as with anything related to real health, there’s no miracle pill to cure a lifetime of poor habits. The key is to take steps in a clean direction and to stay consistent.

While the detoxification process is mainly known for removing environmental toxins that are absorbed day to day, it can address a range of other issues as well – such as weight loss, pain management, and improved concentration and energy.

If you’re considering doing a detox, Livstil Wellness Clinic offers supervised cleansing programs that range from 10 days, to 21 days, to 28 days, to 6 weeks (depending on the purpose and goal of treatment).

We can also do comprehensive tests that assess for specific types of pollutants and heavy metals, or determine how well your detoxification pathways (liver, skin, kidney, gastrointestinal) are working.

Evaluate if this is the best course of action for you. Doing a detox has made a real difference in the lives of a lot of people, and it could make a difference in yours too.
